FINGERPRINTING
The following information is to provide clarification and consistency in the procedures for performing background checks on individuals that volunteer in the Clarkston Community School district.
The State of Michigan requires by law that school districts obtain fingerprints of school employees as well as school volunteers in specific circumstances.
All potential volunteers must be screened through iCHAT (Internet Criminal History Tool) or obtain Volunteer fingerprints at no cost to the volunteer.
ICHATS would be utilized in a school setting where volunteers are working in the school with staff present. Volunteer iChat form must be completed before your first team meeting at a school and should be turned into the school secretary. (iChat) Please note that only one iChat is required per school year.
Volunteer fingerprints must be obtained if the parent is hosting a group outside of school hours, such as Battle of the Books.
If you are leading a Battle of the Books team and were NOT fingerprinted last year, then you have to be fingerprinted THIS year to serve as a volunteer battle coach.
These forms must be completed before your first team meeting. (Live Scan MI Waiver), and then you must book your appointment to be printed
Fingerprints can be taken by Amy Walsh at Clarkston Community Schools, Administration Building, 6389 Clarkston Road, Clarkston, MI 48348.
You can contact Mrs. Walsh at 248.623.5424 or via email @ adwalsh@clarkston.k12.mi.us. The appointment is generally 15 minutes or less.
All records are kept confidential and will not be received or disseminated to anyone not directly involved in the screening process.
The district reserves the right to perform additional background checks at any time for the duration of the volunteer's service in the district. This can be performed regardless of self-disclosure of inappropriate behavior following the initial check.
A master list of approved volunteers will be maintained by the district in accordance with Board policy.
