My brother-in-law and I have been wanting to take a motorbike tour to the well known battlefields in South Africa for a while. Kwazulu Natal (KZN) is known for many battles between Afrikaners & Zulus, English & Afrikaners, English & Zulus and Zulus & other inhabitants of KZN.
The Battlefields Route web site provides a lot of useful information to plan such a trip.
I counted 38 possible sites to visit of which 25 are battle sites, 9 are graves of fallen warriors/soldiers and 4 are historical sites/museums.
Due to Covid19 lockdown restrictions, my brother-in-law from Swaziland could not join me on this trip so this is a solo trip.
The plan is to camp each night and cover as many battle sites as possible in 4 days.
Day 01: Ramsgate via the dirt roads along the Drakensberg foothills to Bergville.
Day 02: Bergville to Volksrust.
Day 03: Volksrust to Richards Bay.
Day 04: Richards Bay to Ramsgate.
