A PLACE TO CALL HOME...

Located in Downtown Des Moines, the YMCA Supportive Housing Campus is more than a homeless shelter. YMCA SHC is extremely unique in its approach to eliminating homelessness, providing permanent housing solutions for those at risk. Getting people a safe place to live is just the start. YMCA SHC has embedded supportive services, including case managers, food pantry, clothing closet, rental assistance, transportation assistance, and more all at no extra cost to residents. This organization provides residents a hand up in securing their basic needs and rising to their life goals.

With only 13 staff members and 140 residents, YMCA SHC relies heavily on volunteers. Throughout the week, our team had the opportunity to take part in many forms of service.
