Calendar
Our class will be divided into two-week modules. This will help with keeping track of dance movement, as well as online discussion topics and assignments. We will use CANVAS for all things class-related and will use the module function to move through the semester together.

Letter Grade or Pass/No Pass Option
It is the student’s responsibility to drop all classes in which they are no longer participating.
It is the instructor’s discretion to withdraw a student after the add/drop deadline due to excessive lack of participation.
Students who remain enrolled in a class beyond the published withdrawal deadline, as stated in the class schedule, will receive an evaluative letter grade in this class.
The final grade in this class will be affected by active participation.
Students will participate in the course to remain enrolled.
With online learning, signing into Canvas is not considered participation, students must "engage in the activity of the course". This means submitting in a discussion or assignment.
Students who show no online participation for more than a 4-week time period will be dropped from the course. This will occur only after multiple attempts at communication from the instructor.
Online learning is a unique opportunity for us to explore the boundaries (and non-boundaries) of dance. This will be a unique semester as we move together virtually and discover dancing together/apart.
Late work for discussions, assignments, and quizzes will be accepted with grade reduction. 10% will be the standard reduction to any work submitted past the deadline.
Please contact me before a due date if there are extenuating circumstances and I will gladly work with you to find a solution.
Weekly and Module assignments are primarily due on Sundays at midnight.
Ballet appropriate dancewear.
Wear support clothing undergarments.
Your hair must be tied back away from eyes and face in a secured bun.
Be in class on time.
NO student will be allowed to take class 5 minutes after the scheduled time.
No use of cell phones during class – including texts, calls, photos or videos.
Fuel your body for dance class. Have water nearby, but please save snacks for before or after class.
Create a clear, focused dancing space. Try to move items away so you have room to dance without obstruction, maintaining a clean and orderly learning environment.
Promote a courteous learning atmosphere by exhibiting mutual respect and consideration of the feelings, ideas, and contributions of others.
Demonstrate respect for your work, as well as the work of others, by recognizing and acknowledging strengths and improvements.
Recognize everyone’s opportunity to contribute information in a relevant and meaningful manner by not monopolizing discussions, interrupting, interjecting irrelevant, illogical, or inappropriate questions or comments. We only have a short time to dance together each week, if you have specific or personal questions, let's schedule a one-on-one time.
The following components will be helpful to personal success in this movement course.
Ballet exercises are easiest performed on a smooth surface (wood, linoleum, tile).
A bit of "give" in your flooring is ideal for protecting your joints and body.
Ballet barre works well with about 10 feet x 10 feet of room for dance.
Ballet center exercises often require more space.
Participation in this course asks for two movement sessions per week, each at least 75 minutes (or 1 hr 15 minutes). It is best practice to have a quiet, focused, and dedicated space to practice dance.
There are many potential distractions and if you can request minimal disturbance from housemates or reduce interruptions from other potential sources your dance time will be more enjoyable.
