Outreach

A two minute video in collaboration with Oxford Sparks for their Lockdown Walks series.

1 hour YouTube Live Q and A with my lab for about being a Forest Scientist

Making my research understandable to the public and industry is vital for accountability, inspires others to develop an interest in science, and allows my research to be translated and applied.

Public engagement

I have been involved in the Oxford University Botanical Gardens 400th Year anniversary celebrations. Both as one of the curators or the Future focus section of the Roots to Seeds exhibition in the Bodleian, and doing several live 'Soap Box' style talks in the garden during the anniversary week.

I am a member of Skype a Scientist and do 2 sessions a term.

Delivered 2 virtual live sessions to Hemblington Primary School for British Science week. This culminated in teaching 90 children how to extract strawberry DNA over Zoom!

I'm involved with Oxford Sparks - an Outreach Platform at the University of Oxford - and have made two videos with them about my research (shown left).

For the International Day of Forests, I did an Instagram takeover for Oxford Biology.

Industry engagement

My PhD is industry funded by a large tree and shrub seed provider and as part of my PhD I have to spend between 3 and 9 months on industrial placements. I am also on two working groups which have industry involvement. This is vital as it means I am able to make sure that my research remains relevant to the issues being faced in forestry.
