LORRI COOK ~ FOUNDER/PRESIDENT
LORRI COOK ~ FOUNDER/PRESIDENT
I am the "brainchild" and founder of Barefoot Angels. I have been a registered nurse for almost 30 years with the majority being in home health care. I asked myself numerous times...How do we help those that can’t get out of their homes obtain the resources they need? How can we make a difference in the lives of others? How blessed was I to land in Barefoot Bay 9 years ago. I knew there was success to be found in tapping into the resources of such a large community.
It gives me the "feel goods" to give back to others and have enjoyed caring for our aging and disabled population immensely. When I am not working at Senior Helpers of Melbourne you may find me in a production of our Barefoot Bay Little Theater, attending music or trivia events here in our community. I also enjoy bingo, cooking and spending time with Mother Nature. I am married to the most wonderful human being you will ever meet Trevor. He has supported and helped with with this project tremendously as well as our Board and volunteers. Raised 2 children in Sebastian who now both live in Massachusetts. Our current fur babies are "Sadie the Lady" and "Big Head" Stella.
May you all find the happiness I do in doing for others as you would have done unto you.
SANDY PLATZ ~ VICE PRESIDENT
I have enjoyed a 45 year nursing career with experience in critical care, long term care and family practice. I have an extensive background including early development of the "family practice" model of care and have served as Director of Nursing. I continue to practice in Florida as an independent RN providing care to seniors and as an advocate to assist in medical care navigation.
I find a great deal of joy in helping friends both new and old in understanding the complexities of the current healthcare system. Advocacy is my specialty and look forward to supporting our neighbors.
In my spare time I enjoy gardening, bridge, reading, walking and spending time with friends.
JEAN DOINA-TREASURER
Although I’ve only lived here for 4 years this March (I hail from LI NY), I’m loving Florida and the Barefoot Bay community. I’ve enjoyed meeting residents playing bridge, poker and canasta, watching my significant other play pickle-ball, and even hanging at the pools or dancing to the bands.
An appreciation of the blessings we have here and a desire to be of service, I’ve recently joined the Angels Volunteers staff. In NY I was a controller and Vice President of a mortgage institution; among other various accounting positions. I felt the draw of the medical field so at 50 , I went back to school to earn a BS in Medical Laboratory Technology. Although I didn’t get to put this new knowledge to practice due to pandemic issues, I was enthralled with learning about human body and how amazing our biological systems work.
I am looking forward to using my years of experience sitting as treasurer on the board.
