The name Barata Batik Jember is derived from the words BATIK KARYA TEGALWARU and was established in 2024 by Mr. Hendik Freadianto.
With the support of the local community, Batik Barata has been able to create job opportunities. Batik Barata is located in the village of Tegalwaru, Mayang District, Jember Regency, East Java Province. The uniqueness of our batik products is not as simple as the background of establishing this home industry. We produce batik fabric sized 200 x 115 cm. The unique batik fabric comes from a variety of materials such as prismina and cotton. From simple to premium materials, our trained artisans transform them into two batik products, namely batik cap and batik tulis.
The production of batik cap meets the market demand on a large scale, such as uniform orders for schools and offices. Meanwhile, the production of batik tulis caters to events like wedding dresses, JFC, and personal orders from district officials and community leaders. As a result, in its development in 2019, it received an award at the JFC event as the winner of the batik contest. This boosted Barata Batik's confidence to open batik classes for the general public.
The production of hand-drawn Batik fabric is processed in our workshop starting from creating motifs, tracing batik motif images, applying wax to the fabric with a canting tool (for hand-drawn batik), adding color, fixing the color, and washing the batik cloth to remove the wax. Meanwhile, the batik stamp process involves printing batik motifs using a stamp (a tool for printing batik motifs). The results of these two batik processes are very different. Because hand-drawn batik uses a canting, the production process requires meticulousness and a longer duration than stamped batik. The visual result of hand-drawn batik is more exclusive and unique, sometimes produced in limited quantities.
