WHAT'S THE ROLE OF LUPONG TAGAPAMAYAPA?
The Lupong Tagapamayapa is the Barangay Justice System (Katarungang Pambarangay) body responsible for settling disputes and maintaining peace in the barangay without going to court. It promotes amicable settlement of conflicts among community members.
Handles minor disputes between residents, such as:
Family misunderstandings
Property boundary conflicts
Money-related disagreements
Minor physical injuries or damages
Encourages parties to settle amicably before going to formal courts.
The Punong Barangay (Barangay Captain) acts as the Lupon Chairperson and leads the conciliation process.
If no agreement is reached, the case may be brought before the Pangkat ng Tagapagkasundo (a smaller panel within the Lupon).
Only when all efforts fail can the case be elevated to a court of law.
Prevents violence and social tension by resolving issues locally and peacefully.
Encourages dialogue, respect, and understanding among community members.
Helps decongest courts by resolving simple barangay-level disputes.
Saves time and money for the parties involved.
Educates residents about their rights and responsibilities under the law.
Promotes the use of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods like mediation and conciliation.
