The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Bettering ADHD Outcomes (BAO) lab was established in 2022 to improve the lives of youth and young adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), particularly those from Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities.
Mission:
The BAO lab’s mission is to understand the role of social and cultural factors that contribute to ADHD’s development, expression, and treatment to inform the creation of culturally sensitive assessment and intervention practices. We seek to carry out this mission by promoting the integration of two foundational pillars:
Research: Engage community members in scientific research to better understand the barriers that prevent those with ADHD from accessing care
Training and Education: Provide training to the next generation of clinical-scientists. Also, educate, consult, and collaborate with professionals in the community to enable a wider network of clinicians to provide the most effective research-informed treatments to clients in the community.
