DAY 0: 4/13 - 4/14 : This time for Africa
April 13, 2024
And the day is finally here.
I'm at Newark, NJ airport, about to board the flight to Paris. I'll meet the rest of the Fulbright TGC 23-24 Morocco group there, and then we'll all head to Casablanca, where the adventure of a lifetime awaits us.
I just had a bit of an adventure at the airport as I was dropped off at the wrong terminal because my ticket was with Delta. It turned out it was actually operated by Air France, which is in a completely different terminal! Fortunately, I had enough time to run back (with my big suitcase) to the correct terminal on time!
Right now, it is just me and Bianca. I am so glad I have a travel partner right from the start.
Our Morocco Field work whatsapp group is now super active as everyone is heading out on their way to Paris !

We were the first in our group to arrive in Paris at 6 a.m. Bianca found a nice, comfortable-looking big green couch to get some rest. She is a poor sleeper and did not get much rest during our flight. I slept pretty well.
Fortunately, the couch was conveniently located across from Starbucks, so I could make a few trips and get coffee. One at a time or in small groups, all 18 of us arrived in Paris from all over the USA. After briefly exchanging our travel experiences so far and enjoying some delicious yet healthy airport food in Paris (yes, it's possible—I just had a cup pf delicious egg with steamed lentil), we took our first-ever "Morocco group" photo in front of a super cool "sleeping cat" sculpture!
In Paris, "there is always time to dream," and we were definitely living our dream.
Finally, after a short flight from Paris, our team of 18 educators landed in Casablanca after traveling for over 20 hours.
The moment we got out of the airport, my first thought was, "This weather is totally like India."
We were greeted at the airport by Meryem from MACECE. Our bus ride to Rabat was long but very comfortable. It was hard to miss how amazingly clean the streets were, with tons of flags all around. We also noticed lots of police, which we were told later could mean that someone from the royal family was possibly traveling.
We were tired from traveling for over 24 hours, but every bit of tiredness disappeared once we reached the hotel. What a spectacular place with amazing hospitality! We were greeted with refreshing mint tea and an assortment of delicious Moroccan cookies!
After an equally tasty dinner, I went to sleep, all ready to start my Moroccan adventure!
