Day 10 (4/24): Chefchaouen, all about the "Bard"
Our day started with a fabulous breakfast. Today we ate a new thing which is like a fried donut ! It was so good.
Our first class observation was a class in physics. This had more boys than girls and everyone was very focused and participating . Teacher used projector. She had students walk up to the white board to deduce equations.
After physics, we went to observe a discussion style French class on «Adolescence and issues related to that ». Students were super excited to present and all set but technology failed and we were unable to see their presentation !
We headed to Aziz’s ESL class where it was my turn to present. It felt amazing to be able to stand up and talk about my favorite poet and so much more Rabindranath Tagore ! His philosophy is my guiding light ! I am dying to play the songs and also to show the community dances but technology failed once again and the speakers did not work ! But that’s ok ! Things fail and we keep moving on. I was happy with what worked.
For the next period Karen presented to the class about « Artivism ». She talked about activism and how art can be a very powerful tool for activism. I loved the way she spoke and her teaching energy ! We were both surprised that students did not know about Malala !
After teaching we headed to a nearby village for lunch ! It was the most beautiful place on earth. We hiked up a small mountain surrounded by rolling mountain. It was an unbelievable sight. Animals grazing, peaceful. We went to the house of a farmer. His wife served us the yummiest meal ever. We met his beautiful family and then headed back to enjoy tea at the organic farm of a retired science teacher ! What an amazing day.
