WARNING:
Choosing literature for young ensembles is the second most important charge of an instrumental music teacher. Implementing a sequential and appropriate curriculum is the only task that should supersede the critical task of selecting music for young ensembles. Ensemble music is the driving force for most of your students but should not be the driving force for your curriculum. Literature should support your curriculum, not steer it. Planning can help ensure that your choices are successful. The considerations imparted here are based on having a concrete curriculum already in place.
