Version con Bandoneón - 2022 - Preview fragmento
'Buenos Aires' was realized in 1990 in the 'Laboratorio de Investigación y Producción Musical' in Buenos Aires (Argentina) where, as a result of a 'Prix Residence' at the electronic music festival in Bourges 1989 (Fr), I had the opportunity to realize a composition. In 2022, the version with Bandoneon was made. This version was selected for the Atemporánea Festival 2022 in Buenos Aires. The video shows a fragment of the piece with the score.

Corrientes - 10 Tango Portrait Studies (1992-95) - Electronic Music - Ronald Philippi
'Corrientes' consists of several short pieces that can best be described as Tango Portrait Studies. The pieces are based on a form that is comparable to the Japanese haiku. The sound material is purely electronic: generated using tone generators, filters, modulators and addition/subtraction techniques. In the pieces I tried to merge the sound world of the tango orchestras from the 30s-50s with the more 'electric' sounds that I had previously created in the piece 'Elektriciteitsveld I - Av. 9de Julio'. This piece was inspired by the eponymous 140-meter wide avenue in Buenos Aires where in the 90s telephone lines were still stretched across the width of the street like spider webs, which was a very impressive image. 'Corrientes' is electricity, but it is also the avenue that crosses Av. 9de Julio. The pieces were commissioned by Het Fonds voor de Scheppende Toonkunst (NL).
Ronald Philippi studied composition at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague from 1984 to 1991 with Jan van Vlijmen, Brian Ferneyhough, Dick Raaijmakers and Jan Boerman, among others. He also attended workshops and lectures with among others John Cage and Karlheinz Stockhausen. In 1989 he received a prix residence at the Competition for electronic music in Bourges, which gave him the opportunity to realize a Composition in the 'Laboratorio de Investigación y Producción Musical' (LIPM) in Buenos Aires. In the 1990s he visited Argentina several times to study the Tango music and dance as well as folk music in the Northern provinces. He is currently based in Paramaribo - Suriname, and has been working there as a Graphic Designer for over 20 years.
