Ronald Philippi studied composition at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague from 1984 to 1991 with Jan van Vlijmen, Brian Ferneyhough, Dick Raaijmakers and Jan Boerman, among others. He also attended workshops and lectures with among others John Cage and Karlheinz Stockhausen. In 1989 he received a prix residence at the Competition for electronic music in Bourges, which gave him the opportunity to realize a Composition in the 'Laboratorio de Investigación y Producción Musical' (LIPM) in Buenos Aires. In the 1990s he visited Argentina several times to study the Tango music and dance as well as folk music in the Northern provinces. He is currently based in Paramaribo - Suriname, and has been working there as a Graphic Designer for over 20 years.
