Electronics are a little different from other hardware parts. When designing 3D-printed parts around them, it is important to consider a few things.Â
Firstly, electronics heat up, so it's a good idea to include not only fans but also fan ducts and cooling pathways. Hot air rises, so vents above the electronics are more effective. However, design vents carefully, as they do allow dust to enter.
Next, if you're using motors or other electronics that need lubrication or maintenance, it's a good idea to keep them easily accessible. You can do this by making the panels slide out, screw on, mount on hinges, or simply snap fits.
Wire management is one of those things that seems like a waste of time until you have to replace electronics or troubleshoot issues. That's why it's a good idea to design for wire management, even if they are just a few simple clips.
