Each API request sent from a third-party application to the BambooHR website will be authenticated and permissioned as if a real user were using the software. The permissions of the user associated with the API request will determine which fields and employees each API request is allowed to view and/or edit.

OverviewAs business applications move from on-premises to cloud hosted solutions, users experience password fatigue due to disparate logons for different applications. Single sign-on (SSO) technologies seek to unify identities across systems and reduce the number of different credentials a user has to remember or input to gain access to resources.

Duo Single Sign-On is available in Duo Premier, Duo Advantage, and Duo Essentials plans, which also include the ability to define policies that enforce unique controls for each individual SSO application. For example, you can require that Salesforce users complete two-factor authentication at every login, but only once every seven days when accessing BambooHR. Duo checks the user, device, and network against an application's policy before allowing access to the application.

Click Protect an Application and locate the entry for BambooHR with a protection type of "2FA with SSO hosted by Duo (Single Sign-On)" in the applications list. Click Protect to the far-right to start configuring BambooHR. See Protecting Applications for more information about protecting applications in Duo and additional application options. You'll need the information on the BambooHR page under Metadata later.

Duo Universal PromptThe new Universal Prompt provides a simplified and accessible Duo login experience for web-based applications, offering a redesigned visual interface with security and usability enhancements.

We've already updated the Duo BambooHR application hosted in Duo's service to support the Universal Prompt, so there's no action required on your part to update the application itself. You can activate the Universal Prompt experience for users of new and existing Duo BambooHR applications from the Duo Admin Panel.

Before you activate the Universal Prompt for your application, it's a good idea to read the Universal Prompt Update Guide for more information about the update process and the new login experience for users.

The "Universal Prompt" area of the application details page shows that this application is "New Prompt Ready", with these activation control options: Show traditional prompt: (Default) Your users experience Duo's traditional prompt via redirect when logging in to this application. Show new Universal Prompt: Your users experience the Universal Prompt via redirect when logging in to this application.

Click the See Update Progress link to view the Universal Prompt Update Progress report. This report shows the update availability and migration progress for all your Duo applications in-scope for Universal Prompt support. You can also activate the new prompt experience for multiple supported applications from the report page instead of visiting the individual details pages for each application.

Under "Your BambooHR URL", copy the unique company domain in the URL, not including 'bamboohr.com', and paste it into the Tenant Name field in the Duo Admin Panel. In the example below, the information to copy is 'acme'.

Return to the Duo Admin Panel with the BambooHR application open. Under "Downloads", click Download certificate. Open the certificate file in a text editor (like Notepad) and copy the entire contents of the file, including the -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- and -----END CERTIFICATE----- lines. Paste the certificate file text into BambooHR's x.509 Certificate field and click Install.

You can also log into BambooHR using Duo Central, our cloud-hosted portal which allows users to access all of their applications in one spot. Link to BambooHR in Duo Central by adding it as an application tile. Once the tile has been added, log into Duo Central and click the tile for IdP-initiated authentication to BambooHR.

Enable Remembered DevicesTo minimize additional Duo two-factor prompts when switching between BambooHR and your other Duo Single Sign-On SAML applications, be sure to apply a shared "Remembered Devices" policy to your SAML applications.

Alternatively, you can also use the Enterprise App Configuration Wizard. In this wizard, you can add an application to your tenant, add users/groups to the app, assign roles, as well as walk through the SSO configuration as well. Learn more about Microsoft 365 wizards.

Cause 2: The user account assigned to BambooHR is deactivated in Oracle Identity Cloud Service under the BambooHR application's Users tab, and the user attempts to initiate single sign-on from BambooHR.

Read this before you enable SAMLEnabling SAML will affect all users who use this application, which means that users will not be able to sign-in through their regular log-in page. They will only be able to access the app through the Okta service.

Backup URLBambooHR does not provide a backup log-in URL where users can sign in using their username and password. A BambooHR admin can disable SAML by uninstalling the Okta SAML application in BambooHR to allow username and password sign in.

Setting up of triggers allows you to sync-up BambooHR with any application. When any event in BambooHR occurs such as creating a new Employee record then the Trigger would automatically kick-off the related connection to sync-up the updates into your target application.

HR Information Systems (HRIS), like BambooHR, are usually the system of record for employee information. IT needs this employee data in order to create new accounts, provision applications, and deactivate users when they leave a business. This exchange between HR and IT can be a friction-filled process and is high risk for data transcription error and security vulnerabilities. With the explosion of cloud-based apps, HR systems, and directories, communication between HR and IT needs to be drastically simplified and improved.

BambooHR offers both IdP-initiated SAML SSO (for SSO access through the user portal or CyberArk mobile applications) and SP-initiated SAML SSO (for SSO access directly through the BambooHR web application). You can configure BambooHR for either or both types of SSO.

To establish a trusted connection between the web application and CyberArk Identity, you need to have the same signing certificate in both the application and the application settings in the Identity Administration portal.

The following steps are specific to this application and are required in order to enable SSO. For information on optional configuration settings available in the IdaptiveIdentity Administration portal, see Configure optional application settings.

The Application ID has to be the same as the text string that is specified as the target in the code of the mobile application written using the mobile SDK. If you change the name of the web application that corresponds to the mobile application, you need to enter the original application name in the Application ID field.

Default permissions automatically deploy the application to the User Portal if the Show in user app list option is selected on the Settings page. Do not select this option if you intend to use only SP-initiated SSO.

Check Allow users to view credentials to allow users to view User Identity (User Name and Password) for an application in the User Portal > Application Settings (select the gear icon in the application tile). Users must have the View permission enabled. This can help users who may need offline access to the application.

Use this option if you want users to supply their own user name and password. This option only applies to some application types such as user password, custom NTLM, and browser extension applications. The first time that users launch the application, they enter their login credentials for that application. The CyberArk Cloud Directory stores the user name and password so that the next time the user launches the application, the CyberArk Cloud Directory logs in the user automatically.

Users are implicitly denied access to applications. After you connect an application to JumpCloud, you need to authorize user access to that application. You can authorize user access from the Application Configuration panel or from the Groups Configuration panel.

BambooHR uses a RESTful API that can help modify employee data and generate reports in multiple formats. The open API makes it easy for your developers to integrate other applications with your account to share data seamlessly across your systems. We found this makes it a good option for midsize businesses that have their own internal IT teams and want to get inside the software to customize it to their needs.
