Ballroom dance is an umbrella term for a set of partner dances which are done socially as well as competitively. The popular show Dancing With the Stars is a prime example!
Because ballroom is such a broad term there are a few key ways we categorize dances at Pitt:
Smooth and Standard: These travel around the floor with long, flowing movements. Think waltz, tango, and foxtrot.
Rhythm and Latin: These are more grounded, compact, and rhythm‑driven. Think cha cha, rumba, swing and jive.
