FAQ's
Is there specific attire required?
Yes! Members must purchase ballroom dance shoes (information provided at meetings) to take the lessons. Exceptions can be made with notice. If you are competing, there are more specific guidelines that will be provided during the meetings.
Do I need to have a partner?
No! Having one is perfered but not required. If you are competing, we will help you find a partner to dance with.
Do I need to attend all of the meetings?
The only required meeting is at 80% of the Tuesday night lessons. However, we recommend attending all of the practice times available.
Do I need to attend every competition?
No. Competitions can be expensive, even with funding. While they are fun, rewarding, and great resume boosters, we do not require people to go to every single competition.
Can I compete without taking the lessons?
Competing with our team without taking the Tuesday lessons is possible given reasonable circumstances and will be considered on a case by case basis.
Approx. how much will is cost to be a team member?
For first time members (after shoes and comp fees), it should be less than $100 for the first comp. After that it should be less than $60 per comp. This does not include lesson fees. There will be a notice of the price for each competition and you should be well aware of the price before committing to go.
Do I need to be a Pitt student to compete?
For the most part, yes. Non-Pitt Undergraduate Students will not receive funding for competitions (as per University rules) or have access to some of the rooms we use to practice. But, if you are a graduate student, recent alumni, or just generally still interested in competition, please reach out to us and we can help you find different opportunities!
