The Personal Statement is arguably the most subjective component of a law school application. Every person has a story that they want to share in their own unique way. While we cannot give you the keys to a perfect personal statement (only you can do that), here is a short list of widely agreed upon do's and do not's.
Do:
Focus on yourself
Mention relevant work or on-campus experience that has played a role in your decision to pursue a legal career
Reference ways in which your personal life has inspired your passion to attend law school
Make a clear statement as to why you are pursuing law school
Make your personal statement unique; the admisions committee should be able to learn something about you that doesn't appear elsewhere in your application
Do Not's:
Get too personal; share your story but get to the point
Spend time focused on activities in middle school or high school
Fall into the cliches
Ie. Growing up watching Law & Order
Make your personal statement about someone else
This is your time to sell yourself, not your grandma
Submit a first draft
Have as many people review it as possible
