I started the challenge to build my own computer in the summer of 2020. I have always liked to work with computers and learn new things about them. At the time of me building my computer, I had just recently switched my Major to Information Technology. Within that first year of the major, I learned how to build a PC. Therefore, I wanted to try and build one for myself.
First, I started by looking up what components were in my budget and that would be compatible to use together in a computer build. To do this I used a site called PCPartPicker. This site allows you to try many different combinations of RAM, CPU, GPU, and even cases to figure out what you need.
PC Part List:
AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor
Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory( x2)
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER 8 GB Video Card
EVGA SuperNOVA 650 GT 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
NZXT H710 ATX Mid Tower Case
Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
Then, I had to begin assembling all the parts that I had ordered for my computer build. This was my first time handling these parts outside of a lab enviornment. The first step was to install the CPU onto the motherboard. I purchased an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X CPU for my computer build. The Ryzen 7 came with a fan for cooling the CPU that I installed after installing the CPU onto the motherboard. After installing the CPU in the motherboard the next thing to do was install the RAM into the RAM slots. I chose to install 32 GB of RAM on my computer. Then, I installed the motherboard into the case. Once the motherboard was installed in the case I installed the GPU which is a Nvidia 2060 Super Geforce RTX. All that is left after that is to plug everything into the correct port on the motherboard and install the fans in the case.
The next part of building a computer is to install an operating system on your computer. I already had a Windows key and used that Windows key again by downloading it onto a flash drive that was plugged into the computer. Once the computer was turned on I booted from the Windows key which sent me to the Windows Setup Wizard to finish setting up my device by installing the Windows operating system.
In conclusion, building a PC gave me tremendous hands-on experience in building computers and working with computer parts. It has allowed me to learn how to troubleshoot issues that may occur when working with computer parts. Also, I have gained real-world experience working with computer parts that will help me in any I.T. job in the future.
