Ba Kom spelling is entirely phonetic. If you know the spelling of a word, then you can pronounce it, and if you know how to pronounce a word, then you can spell it.

Ba Kom can be written in almost any writing-system, as long as all the sounds are represented. Every letter in every script has a direct equivalent in every other script: for instance, the Latin alphabet letter ng corresponds to Cyrillic ң, Arabic ڠ, and Devanagari ङ.

The Ba Kom word for “letter, alphabet” is ji xol, "written symbol".

The alphabetical order is the same for all Ba Kom alphabets, regardless of which script is used.
