The Utah Raptors are an American professional basketball team based in Salt Lake City. The Raptors compete in the National Basketball Association as a member of the Northwest Division of the Western Conference. The team was formerly known as the Utah Jazz until New Orleans bought the name Jazz off of Utah in 2024. Utah bought the Raptors name from Toronto after Toronto ownership rebranded as the Toronto Huskies. Utahraptor (meaning "Utah's predator") is a genus of large dromaeosaurid (a group of feathered carnivorous theropods) dinosaur that lived during the Early Cretaceous period from around 135 to 130 million years ago in what is now the United States. Utah ownership decided the name Raptors would fit in perfectly for the team's name after residents unanimously voted for the name. The team plays its home games at the Delta Center.
