Utrecht

Utrecht is a beautiful medieval city. It is the fourth largest city in the Netherlands and is home to over 30,000 international students. Let´s explore Utrecht´s nature, cuisine and culture!

Nature

Utrecht is surrounded by beautiful canals and has many parks such as Grift Park and Juliana park. Grift park has a beautiful walkway along the canal surrounded by trees, a great place for a morning walk or picnic with friends. Juliana park is unique as it it home to a farm with alpacas, chickens and goats! Followed by beautiful flowers and trees.

Cuisine

  • Utrecht has a variety of foods that make it unique. From delicious Krokets, to Bitterballen to Frikandel speciaal.


  • The Mannekenpis does the best fries in Utrecht. Located outside the Hoog Catharijne Mall. The perfect food after a night out in the city centre.


  • Kroket stall located outside Utrecht Central Station. A yummy snack!

Kroket

These are delicious fried potato which can be filled with a flavour of your choice. From satay sauce, to cheese!

Poffertjes

These are tiny pancakes often coated with powered sugar. A lovely treat for breakfast.

Stroopwafel

These are a dutch favourite. They are delcious with a cup of tea or coffee. Even on their own!

Biking

You can bike almost everywhere in Utrecht. It is the main form of transport. There are more bikes than cars here!

Drinking with friends

The main form of socialising would be a drink with friends. Its common to grab a drink after college or work. One litre beers are a favourite. A great way to end day!

Architecture

Utrecht has many unique styles on bulidings. Many high rise buildings are full of different colours, and random shapes and styles.

The weekend markets

Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday markets are held in the city centre. A great way to spend your weekend and indulge in the various treats the markets have to offer.

Places to visit

St Martins Cathedral

Located next to the Cathedral tower in Utrecht. Its a historic protestant church, with beautiful scaffolding and architecture throughout. A place of peace and quiet.

De Keuken Van Keek cafe

This cute cafe is a little outside the city, it is perfect for a light brunch. The pancakes are delicious and the coffee is top knotch. A popular hot spot, that provides fresh baked goods in the morning. Be sure to get their quickly before there all gone!

The Canal ( you can´t miss it)

The canal runs through the heart of Utrecht. A bike ride, walk or a boat ride along the canal is bliss and peaceful. Even at night. So simple, yet it what makes Utrecht so beautiful.
