Homeschooled students often don't have experience with hard deadlines. Colleges are well aware of this too. Most adults probably agree that meeting deadlines is a necessary discipline. Ninth and tenth graders have different abilities to handle workloads and deadlines. This course provides students the structure yet grace to learn how to work with complex workloads and deadlines. My mission is for each student to make personal improvement in these skills throughout the year no matter the starting point. For some students it may be learning how to organize papers in a binder; for others it may be developing the skills to handle assignments at the community college in the 11th grade or a brick-and-mortar high school.
My due date policy is similar to that employed by colleges. Assignments are not accepted after the deadline unless an extension is requested via email no later than 24 hours before the assignment is due. Unlike college however, parents must be cc'd. Sickness is an exception. I'm willing to work with parents for special circumstances.
Assignments and their deadlines are provided each week via an emailed checklist as well as on Google Classroom. Google Classroom syncs up with Google Calendar which helps students stay on top of deadlines. The Google Classroom format will prepare students for Blackboard, Brightspace, Canvas, Moodle, or other online assignment management programs that colleges use.
