If you upload your videos to Squarespace, video blocks and background videos use the same tag_hash_107 HTML element to embed a video media player. As it is the same code, the reliability of an autoplay video should not be any different from the same mobile device.

The difference is that, when you add a background video, it will always include the autoplay, muted and loop attributes so that the video automatically begins to play as soon as it can do so (before it finishes loading). When you add a video block, you choose whether to enable these attributes for autoplay, or wait until the user clicks 'play' manually.

That said, you can also upload your video to a video hosting service but, if you do that, the reliability of playback will also depend on your that third party service and how well it interacts with Squarespace. Using YouTube for background videos is not recommended.

If that is the case, I would just keep using the background video instead, it is able to crop the sides for mobile which is perfect too. Unfortunately, like we understand, they dont work all the time for various reasons.

I am having the same issue. In my environment, if I am watching a Youtube video, whether or not I have other Youtube tabs open, another video, not from the tabs I have open, starts playing in the background. Then I have to pause the video I am watching and go into the Media controls to close that second video playing.

Since the iOS 16 update my background videos have stopped working on iPhone. They were working perfectly before the update and I haven't changed a thing. They work fine on MacOS, iPad (iOS 15.6.1) and Android.

I need help please. Suddenly my background video is not playing anymore on my website homepage, now it just a static image even though I have background video added in the setting. I have this same issue. I have a video playing in the background and It was fine until I edited the text box. Now it just freezes. I even tried adding a new section and it does the same thing. Hoping someone has a fix or Squarespace can fix it asap.

Last night I noticed that all background videos (on my site bungalow28.com and my clients') stopped displaying via mobile. Other people were able to reproduce this issue as well via iOS. I did not check via Android. I logged this issue with Squarespace support and I was wondering whether you encountered this as well? We have a self hosted video using slider revolution on the home page but do not at all costs want to have to build new sliders for all the other pages that currently have nice youtube backgrounds linked within the rows, we just want to link our own videos in those rows.

Thanks for the help. macOS version is Big Sur 11.1. This is through the default UI (not programmatically) but we are using Zoom in custom UI mode. This is on a Macbook Pro but NOT with M1 chip. I should also add that video virtual backgrounds work fine for me in the normal Zoom app - the same default background settings for adding/choosing videos works in Zoom, not in our Zoom SDK app.

If you are modifying the video filter or virtual background settings programmatically, please ensure that your camera input device is recording before changing settings. If the camera is not on, there is no way to update this feature.

This is a screen shot of what happens when selecting a video as a virtual background in our Zoom SDK app. The thumbnail is diagonal gray/black (blank) and the preview above it would show the normal camera with no background (I had it covered here). As a comparison, the same video works fine as a virtual background in the normal Zoom app chosen through the same settings.

I believe there will always be minor scaling issues when stretching a video across a background like this because the viewport will most likely not match the scaling dimensions of the video. However, I think this is the appropriate solution to your problem as is scales one dimension of the video as necessary to cover the background without scaling outside the viewport.

There's nothing to comment on/report on the app side - the recommended method is still to do a PNG Sequence export with 'Make background transparent' in the Document Inspector turned on, and then use other software to stitch together the PNGs to a video.

Not sure, but i think there is no video format/codec for transparency like in PNG for example. You can use masking in video editing, but you need some background that shines through, so that you can deterime what background/color you want.

One thing I hate about Twitter is that when playing a video, I can't browse away from that video or page while still having it play. Is there any setting or other method in Chromium that would enable this? (Perhaps blocking the onBlur or whatever event Twitter is capturing to stop background playback?)

Here is a video showing how it turned out. Just threw something together quick to show what can be done with the Size & Position filters. If your video is just one size, you could just scale it down with the size & position filter so your background video will show though.

Honestly I'm pretty new to Storyline, and after working with it for a few weeks, I suspect the reason they haven't added this feature after so long is because video elements to not play well at all with Storyline's interactive elements. I tried to get creative and create all my animation prior and then just use Storyline to overlay any interactive elements I needed and it was a disaster. Really buggy and slow. The second I changed out all the backgrounds for JPGs instead of movies it worked fine.
