Newborn, infant and toddler photoshoots look different than other kinds, because, well, baby is the boss. Here is a bit of what you can expect on the day of your photoshoot.
Baby is the boss, and I always let baby lead the session. Sometimes this means it takes more time.
It is not uncommon for babies to cry or fuss while they are being handled, but if you are uncomfortable we always have time for breaks
This session needs to equally be as memorable as the photos, we do what you are comfortable with, nothing more.
Germs are big, and babies are little so I will never photography a little if I am feeling under the weather, I will always have clean hands, and freshly washed backdrops and swaddles, and if it makes you feel more comfortable I am happy to wear a mask upon your request.
Lots, and lots of milk. Photos are exhausting and we may need a snack break
A pacifier if baby uses one
A comfort object
Any special blankets, swaddles, clothing, or objects you want photographed
Clean diapers and a change of clothes
Once you come in we will get acquainted and slowly dress baby to your choosing
We will start with whatever pose baby is allowing us to, and work from there
Family portraits are done at the end of the session
I use a posing bed for all of my sessions. This is essentially a large heavy duty and sturdy leather bean bag with a frame to support a backdrop. This is a fantastic tool because it keeps baby safe, comfortable, and cozy while easily being able to manipulate them into various poses. With the help of additional support pillows, newborn can safely be posed in a variety of ways, and older infants and toddlers have a safe area to roll on allowing me to capture the most precious moments.
Many images use a variety of other props including baskets, bowls, and other safe items that baby can either be placed on top of or inside of. These props are all used in conjunction with specially designed support pillows to maintain your little ones safety at all times.
Once you arrive to the studio you are welcome to have a look at all props and supports and settings so that we can craft your vision.
One of the most fun ways to customize your images is to choose what colours you want! This means choosing backdrops, faux furs, florals, and swaddles, wraps, and overlays! I have a variety of colours to choose from and mix'n'match, and am constantly bringing new colours into the studio on a regular basis.
All of the images you receive from me in your gallery will be edited to correct lighting and optimize image composition. Photoshop is done as minimally as possible, and I will not photoshop anything that is a permanent feature. The goal of my newborn sessions is to capture and freeze these real moments. I want to make sure the images being produced are true to you and your baby.
Your images will be delivered to you electronically through an image distribution software. The online portfolio will be password protected and will only be shared to your private email. You will be able to download your images from this platform onto smartphones and computers for 14 days after delivery. I pride myself on being able to deliver galleries within the week of the session unless otherwise specified.
Your baby's safety and your own comfort are two things I pride myself on. I will never keep you away from your baby. You will always be in eyeshot, only a few steps from baby at all times.
I will always practice clean hygiene, as well as use freshly washed linens.
Anything you are not comfortable with, we do not do. Even though baby is the boss, you are a close second.
Don't be shy to ask me anything, at any time. I am here to help make this experience enjoyable and cherishable.
LEGAL DISCLAIMER
All parents choosing to have a photoshoot done will be asked to a agree to a service contract upon confirming the booking stating that they have agreed to allow me to hold, change, and gently manipulate baby to achieve the desired poses. Although all safety precautions are always taken, I cannot assume any responsibility for any illness or injury occuring during or after any booked photo session.
No two sessions can ever be replicated, and I can make no gurantee that your little one will cooperate enough to obtain specific images, like smiling; however, I will always do my best to get great captures!
