Today, we began with our team-building exercise called "keepy uppies," where the class works together to keep a ball in the air, gaining a point with each touch. This activity is a great warm-up for rehearsals, and we've been improving steadily over the past four weeks, starting with a score of 7 and reaching 26 instead. It's an excellent way to foster teamwork and prepare for group rehearsals.
Liz informed us that we would be recording our performances today to send them to Ellesmere campus for review, along with our technician and music scripts, in preparation for our show on Wednesday. She then instructed us to get into our groups, and we realized we needed to finalize our music choices since we only had one confirmed song. After much discussion, we selected four tracks:
Moral of the Story by Ashe (Track 2): For the scenes when the weird girl appears at the window and throughout her time on stage.
Ride" by Lana Del Rey (Track 4): Luca suggested this for the end of the performance to emphasize the dramatic final scene, symbolizing change and development for Caitlin and Cameron, while highlighting the continued struggles of the weird girl.
Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO (Track 3): Chosen for the party scene, as it fits perfectly with the setting and energy.
Dearly Beloved" from Kingdom Hearts (Track 1): Selected as an overarching track to play throughout the performance, aligning with Frantic Assembly’s emphasis on music. It conveys a snowy, romantic atmosphere with sad undertones.
We were very pleased with these selections. Liz requested our tech script by the end of the day, so I marked all our lighting instructions on a blank script, ensuring it was ready to submit after recording. We then ran through our performance without stopping, although we didn’t receive feedback as it wasn’t presented to the rest of the class. We felt confident about our performance, believing the chosen extracts and our execution were strong. Although we still need to note the music cues on the script, we planned to rehearse outside of class today, allowing me to finalize it then. Ruby also decided to actually scream during the weird girl’s scene in the first extract, finding it more impactful than miming. During our additional rehearsal, we focused on refining smaller details since the group is now well-versed in the lines and overall performance.
