Responsibilities: The President plays a crucial role in leading and coordinating various events throughout the school year, such as the Salvete event, Fall Forum, and the state convention. They act as a liaison between local JCL chapters and the national organization, ensuring effective communication and collaboration. They maintain active communication with the executive board, strive to fulfill the mission of the AZJCL by promoting the classics to all JCL and non-JCL schools, and support other executive board members in their duties and responsibilities. By promoting a greater knowledge and appreciation of classical languages, cultures, literature, and traditions, the president helps foster a community of students interested in the Classics and provides opportunities for leadership and personal growth.

Favorite JCL Memory: Last year when me and Zoe couldn’t attend state convention due to a mock trial conflict, we were sitting waiting for results to come through from the rest of our chapter and then having the entirety of mock trial hype us up for being in such a nerdy activity and succeeding in it!

Responsibilities: The 1st Vice President has a range of important responsibilities. They are tasked with producing the Toga Talk publication in September, November, February, and April, which must also be submitted to the National Competition. They are responsible for sending articles and state reports to the Torch, the NJCL publication, and maintaining active communication with the AZJCL State Chair and AZJCL Officers. Additionally, they keep an up-to-date AZJCL membership list and contact all clubs for information to be published in Toga Talk.

Responsibilities: The 2nd Vice President has many different responsibilities. Organizing spirit activities and running Olympika at the state level while also overseeing the Spirit competition at the National Convention and all social activities throughout the school year. Maintaining communication with the AZJCL chair is also important to the position along with managing the “club of the month” and “photo of the month” contests in cooperation with the Historian and the Communication Coordinator.

Responsibilities: The Communications Coordinator has a comprehensive set of responsibilities. They take clear and concise minutes at each state meeting and ensure these are sent to all JCL schools via email or posted on the site. They manage the instagram and work closely with the Webmaster to manage the AZJCL website. Additionally, they send missives to schools and professors to maintain the AZJCL’s stellar reputation. Active communication with the AZJCL State Chair and Officers via AZJCL email is crucial, as is managing the “club of the month” and “photo of the month” contests in partnership with the Historian and Second Vice-President.

Responsibilities: The historian has a variety of important responsibilities. They take pictures at events and create a digital scrapbook based on a theme, contacting all clubs for scrapbook materials, pictures, and other relevant content. The Historian promotes Arizona by sending pictures to the NJCL Historian and maintains active communication with the AZJCL State Chair and Officers via AZJCL email. They also manage the “club of the month” and “photo of the month” contests in partnership with the Communications Coordinator and Second Vice-President.

Favorite JCL Memory: In my third year going to NJCL convention, I got to participate in spirit with the Maryland, DC, Nevada, and Arizona JCLs which was super fun! I really enjoyed the friends I made and the working ice cream machine on campus.

Responsibilities: The webmaster works closely with the Historian and Coco to manage the social media platforms of the AZJCL. Specifically, they maintain the website by updating and editing it to fit the specific needs of the AZJCL. They also submit the website to the NJCL website contest for grading at the beginning of each month. That contest can be found here.
