The AZCALL Conference
AZCALL is a one-day conference held each year that brings together computer-assisted language learning enthusiasts from around the state and region to share ideas, network, and receive valuable feedback on scholarly research, academic papers, and major conference presentations which are in progress or preparation.
This year's AZCALL Conference theme is the enhancement of language teaching and learning through technology integration
Featured Speakers
Dr. Greg Kessler
Ohio University
Dr. Kessler will explore the changing nature of language teaching in relation to recent technological and pedagogical innovations. He will focus on the importance of intentionally designing instructional experiences that harness the potential of these emerging innovations. He will share examples of recent developments related to learning, language and technology, including artificial intelligence, automation driven assessment, data driven learning, automated speech interfaces, and a variety of forms of natural language processing. Some of the tools and resources associated with these developments have found their way into language teaching and learning while others certainly will in the near future. He will discuss creative ways to focus on social communication while designing instructional experiences.
Dr. Okim Kang
Northern Arizona University
Dr. Okim Kang will start with the overview of CALL-related L2 pronunciation and discuss findings and ideas on research topics, including technology-based L2 intelligibility feedback, automated scoring systems, mobile-assisted pronunciation and communication training, Artificial Intelligence (AI) approaches to L2 pronunciation and evaluation as well as learners' and teachers' perceptions of technology use in various contexts. She will end her presentation with future research directions and pedagogical recommendations on L2 speaking and listening instruction as well as language assessment and testing.

Join us for an afternoon workshop led by Dr. Plonsky, who will delve into research methods with a special focus on ethical practices in applied linguistics. Accompanying him, our distinguished guest speakers will share their expertise in various facets of CALL-related research. This interactive session promises valuable insights and lively discussions.
