Challenge Objective - 3D model a roller chain link of your own design and print a series of five links without print supports. When completed, the link should move as a roller-type chain.
Must be designed in SolidWorks
Prepared in a slicer for additive manufacturing
3D printed in PLA filament
An individual link cannot take up more space than 20mm²
Test prints (no more than two links) are required before full prints (no more than 5 links)
No slicer-generated supports allowed
these are the original rough sketches for the project.
This is the first design in solid works for my chain link project
I went back into solid works, filleted the corners, and thinned out the connecting rod and sent it back to the slicer.
This is the first two-part chain link test print. It was clunky because the corners would scratch onto the side of it and the rod in the middle, connecting it was too big around
Here i am messing with all of the slicer functions after assembling the 5-part chain link together and previewing the slice to make sure they were alligned together.
This is the final roller chain print. It is a lot more fluid than the original print and it has all of the five needed links.
