Gachon–Hanbat Joint Research Colloquium

On August 3, 2026, a joint research colloquium between Gachon University and Hanbat National University was held at Gachon University. Professor Sunbeom Kwon of the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Mobility Engineering at Hongik University delivered the keynote lecture, titled “Computational Dynamics and ML-Aided Temporal Discretization Techniques.” The keynote was followed by research presentations from members of the laboratories of Professors Wonchang Choi and Seungwook Seok at Gachon University and Professor Haeyong Park at Hanbat National University. Through lively discussion, participants shared their latest research findings, exchanged ideas across disciplines, and explored opportunities for continued academic collaboration.

Welcoming Dr. EunSeon Cho to AXIS.Lab

In March 2026, Dr. Eunsun Cho joined AXIS.Lab as a Postdoctoral Researcher. With Dr. Cho’s addition to the lab, we expect our research capacity to be further strengthened and look forward to generating meaningful outcomes across various research areas.

Research Project Commissioned by KICT on Lunar Regolith Sintered Blocks

In 2026, our lab is conducting a subcontract research project commissioned  by the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology (KICT). The project, titled “Numerical Analysis of Structural Characteristics of Sintered Blocks,” investigates the structural performance of lunar regolith sintered tetrapod blocks subjected to high-pressure and high-velocity loads generated during spacecraft landing. Through advanced numerical simulations, the study analyzes contact behavior, stability, and collapse mechanisms of stacked blocks and aims to provide fundamental design references for lunar landing pads and protective structures. The project runs from March to November 2026.

Vibration Evaluation of Korea-4GSR

On October 30, 2024, Dr. Seok presented the results of the vibration evaluation for the Multipurpose Synchrotron Radiation Accelerator (Korea-4GSR), which is planned to be constructed in Ochang, Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do, to the project team. 

BRL Team Kickoff Meeting at Gachon University

On September 19, 2024, our BRL team held a kickoff meeting at Gachon University. About 20 researchers, including Dr. Wonchang Choi, the team leader, attended the meeting and discussed future short-term and long-term research plans and collaboration plans. 

Co-PI Award for Carbon-Sequestering Concrete Research Project 

On July 2024, Dr. Seok, as a Co-PI, was awarded the Global Basic Research Lab Research Grant (No. RS-2024-00408370) from Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT. The title of the awarded research project is "Development of Carbon-Sequestering Concrete Using Biochar-Based Graphene and Its Application in Structural Components". The project runs from August 2024 to April 2027. Congratulations!

Presentation at the KICT

On June 18, 2024, Dr. Seok gave a presentation at the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering (KICT), entitled "Development of extraterrestrial habitat." Attached is a photo of Dr. Seok and KICT researchers in front of the Dusty Thermal Vacuum Chamber (DTVC) in KICT. 

Dr. Seok Joins Gachon University

Dr. Seok has been appointed as a tenure-track assistant professor in the Department of Architectural Engineering at Gachon University, South Korea, since March 1, 2024.
