About AWSiM 2023

The Arizona Women’s Symposium in Mathematics (AWSiM) will take place on November 18-19, 2023 at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. This weekend-long conference will be the second of its kind in Arizona where women mathematicians across the state will have the opportunity to:

The AWSiM conference will have three one-hour-long plenary talks, one workshop on equity and inclusive teaching in the classroom, several concurrent contributed talk sessions, a student poster session, and two networking sessions during lunch. 

Funding Availability

Funding to cover up to two of nights of lodging is available for a limited number of participants. Students, recent Ph.D.'s, women, and members of underrepresented minority groups are particularly encouraged to apply for funding. Preference for conference funding will be given to presenters, but everyone is encouraged to apply. Funding requests are included in the registration form below.

To help maximize the amount of funding given to each participant, we strongly encourage participants to first seek funding from other sources, such as their academic departments, home institutions, or grants. We also encourage participants to consider room sharing.

Hors d'oeuvres at the Saturday reception, lunch on Saturday and Sunday, and coffee/tea on Saturday and Sunday, will be provided by the conference for all participants. Please note that dinner on Saturday will not be funded by the conference. At the registration table, there will be sign-up sheets to restaurants for those who want to have dinner with conference participants.

Registration is required for all participants. Please fill out the following registration form by November 4, 2023 at 11:59pm. Funding requests are included in the registration form. Funding requests must be made by October 6, 2023 at 11:59pm. Everyone is welcome to participate and there is no registration fee to attend.

Present a Contributed Talk or Poster

If you would like to present a poster or give a 25-minute contributed talk, please fill out the submission form by October 13, 2023 at 11:59pm. All fields of mathematics and mathematics education are welcome. Preference for contributed talks will go to those who identify as women. Note: presenters must also register for the conference.
