Title: Using concepts from Mesoamerican mathematics to complement the Western approach to mathematical thinking in the classroom

Abstract: Mesoamerican mathematics was largely based on the vigesimal, or base-20 number system, which shows a unique approach to numbers and figures. This presentation introduces concepts from Mesoamerican mathematics to show variations in mathematical thinking that come from different cultures. Discourse around applying these concepts in the mathematics classroom.
