Title: Who is Doing the Thinking in Mathematics?

Abstract: If you reflect on your own experience as a learner of mathematics, who did the thinking in the classroom? It’s likely the case that you, as a student, did a lot of thinking outside of the classroom as you grappled with the ideas presented during class, so how can we create opportunities for students to meaningfully engage with — and think deeply about — mathematics during class? This session will focus on instructional strategies for building thinking classrooms (Liljedahl, 2020) and how we can use student thinking as instructional springboards.
