About AWSiM 2022

The Arizona Women’s Symposium in Mathematics (AWSiM) will take place on November 5-6, 2022 at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona. This weekend-long conference will be the first of its kind in Arizona where women mathematicians across the state will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about research done by other women mathematicians in Arizona

  • Share their research in a supportive environment

  • Form a strong network of women mathematicians within the state

  • Develop action plans to increase the recruitment and retention of women in mathematics in their respective institutions in Arizona.

The AWSiM conference will have two one-hour-long plenary talks, one workshop on teaching and equity in the classroom, two discussions on increasing recruitment and retention of women studying mathematics, and concurrent contributed talk sessions. There will also be opportunities for networking and socializing during coffee breaks, lunch, and a dinner banquet. The conference is nondiscriminatory and everyone is welcome to attend.

Funding Availability

Funding to cover up to (2) of nights of lodging and a dinner banquet on Saturday is available for a limited number of participants. Lunch on Saturday, and coffee/tea on Saturday and Sunday, will be provided by the conference for all participants. Students, recent Ph.D.'s, women, and members of underrepresented minority groups are particularly encouraged to apply for funding. Preference for conference funding will be given to presenters, but everyone is encouraged to apply. Funding requests are included in the registration form below.

To help maximize the amount of funding given to each participant, we strongly encourage participants to first seek funding from other sources, such as their academic departments, home institutions, or grants. We also encourage
participants to consider room sharing.

If you would like to apply for funding, please register by October 1, 11:59pm.

Registration

Registration is now closed.

Unfortunately, we are no longer accepting participants for AWSiM due to a large number of registrants - much higher than we anticipated! - which has stretched our budget to its limits. We hope you understand and hope to see you at the next AWSiM!

Submit an Abstract

Abstract submission is now closed.

We will be posting a contributed talks schedule soon!
