Title: The Glass Filter: Women, Mathematics, and Majors

Abstract: How do students’ experiences in mathematics affect their later trajectories? Do women fare differently in the academic pipeline? Currently mathematics functions as a glass filter diverting many women students from fields where they could flourish. Mathematics has an outsize role in filtering students both in and out of majors; our departments have a responsibility to ensure the doors are wide open! This talk will suggest ways to keep the route to more majors open to more students, particularly to women.
