How much does it cost to be a member?
Combined membership dues are split into 12 easy payments. This typically amounts to $52.00 per month.
How do I pay?
Members can choose to have their dues automatically deducted from their paycheck each month, or they can do an electronic funds transfer.
Where do my dues go?
Membership to AWNEA comes with membership to a unified association at the local, state, and national level. Dues pay for membership to the national (NEA), state (Kansas NEA), and local (AWNEA) associations.
Unlike other organizations, your dues are used to benefit you and fellow members. For example, some local dues support partnerships with the district and other organizations to bring you professional development, the New Teacher Luncheon, and other local programming meant for members here in USD 437. Local dues also support the WRHS Senior Scholarship.
KNEA and NEA dues support a structure and service-delivery system that provides members with professional development, public advocacy, leadership training, supporting programs for educators and students that promote social justice, democracy, and perhaps most importantly Great Public Schools for all. Additionally, state and national dues fund grants that are given back to teachers and schools in our community.
In addition, dues are used to fund legal protection and support for educators.
Your dues are NEVER used for political contributions to candidates.
What are the organization's religious and political stances?
AWNEA, KNEA, and NEA are nonpartisan organizations. AWNEA, KNEA, and NEA only take positions on and support education-related legislation, candidates, issues or actions.
Political Advocacy Committee (PAC) contributions are completely optional and separate from dues or other activities.
AWNEA, KNEA, and NEA have no religious positions or affiliations.
