Greeting by Dr. Tziona Levi
Distinguished guests, the General Director of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Samuel Abuav, Dr. Miri Shlissel, Mr. Moshe Zafrani, Mr. Meir Shimoni, the chair of the teachers’ union Mr. Ran Erez, Risa Levi from the American embassy, the Gefen family, award winning teachers, family members and guests.
I have the privilege to welcome you to this ceremony here in Jerusalem.
At the outset, I wish to thank a few people who made this evening possible. First, the language educators, our award-winning English teachers from all over the country whom we honour at this gathering today. Your dedication, creativity and love for teaching has turned you into the exceptional teachers you are, a true inspiration to one and all.
I am indebted to the organizing committee, who worked tirelessly to turn tonight into a unique and memorable event. I would like to extend special thanks to Gail Singer, Mdalala Azam, Judy Pecheivsky, Amanda Caplan, Nicole Broder, as well as our professional MCs tonight, Pat Talshir and Dr. Rachel Tal. Also, thanks to each one of the English district inspectors, for ensuring that the award-winning teachers fully represent the English teachers’ community.
I am indebted to the chair of the teachers’ union Mr. Ran Erez and Mr. Nachum Yirmiyahu for all your help and support in sponsoring and making this event happen generously and in a positive spirit.
I would like to thank the cultural attaché’s office of the American embassy and public diplomacy affairs chief assistant, Risa Levy, always here for us, English teachers and English inspectorate to fulfill our mutual dreams by fully supporting our language programs. I also would like to thank the head of the advisory committee Dr. Elisheva Barkon and the judges: Dr. Shosh Vintner, Mr. Moshe Zafrani, Aharona Gvaryahu and Risa Levi for selecting the awarded teachers from a long list of worthy nominees.
And last but by no means, least, thanks to my partner in all my endeavours, Ilana Rosenberg from the Languages Department. Your attention to every single tiny detail is outstanding, and your dedication is impressive and greatly appreciated.

הכוח ביישום השינויים באנגלית בתכנית-הלימודים ובתכנית הלאומית בכלל הינו בחזון המשותף של כולנו.
המורים הזוכים היום מייצגים את היכולת להשתנות מדי יום וליישם פרקטיקות הוראה טובות בכיתתם. הוראת אוצר-מילים באופן ממוקד, הוראה והערכה של השפה הדבורה, הדגמות של קריאה לשם הנאה, הם מן המוקדים המרכזיים של העשייה בכיתת האנגלית. ובעיקר,המורים מטפחים תלמידים, בוגרי מערכת החינוך השולטים בשפה האנגלית.
וככל שעולמנו משתנה והחברה מתפתחת, גם ההגדרה שלנו להצלחה משתנה. בבית הספר איננו רוצים להדגיש רק את הלמידה האקדמאית ההישגית. אנחנו רוצים להביא את ערך שמחת הלימוד לידי ביטוי. ברצונינו להביא לכך שהתלמידים שלנו לא רק ילמדו בחדווה, מתוך תחושת מסוגלות, אלא ישתמשו בשפה האנגלית גם אחרי תום תקופת בית-הספר.
המורים הזוכים הציבו את התלמידים במרכז ומגלמים בעבודתם את רוח הלמידה. הם מפגינים תשוקה ומקצוענות בפיתוח עתיד תלמידיהם.
אני מודה להם ולעוד הרבה מורים לאנגלית שאינם נמצאים פה היום על כך שהם בחרו להיות חלק מהייעוד המשמעותי לפתח את הידע והשימוש בשפה האנגלית. שפה זו שהינה הזרז המשמעותי ביותר למוביליות חברתית ומהווה מפתח לעתיד לכל תלמיד ותלמידה .
מקבלי הפרס הערב נותנים השראה להשיג את המיטב ולעבוד לקראת הגשמת חלומותיהם. ההתלהבות שלהם מהוראה ולמידה מדרבנת מורים אחרים ומובילה אותם לחתור למצוינות בהקניית ידע של אנגלית וערכים של למידה. בהובלת האתוס של מקצוע ההוראה, מורים אלה עוברים את הקילומטר הנוסף כדי להבטיח שכל ילד בכיתותיהם יתפתח בצורה מליאה עם שפה שתבטיח יישום מיומנויות של המאה ה -21.
מי ייתן ומורים אלה יהוו נושאי דגל עבור רבים אחרים.
ובנימה אישית, אני מבקשת להביע את תחושת הגאוה והסיפוק שאני חשה בשותפות שנרקמה הלכה למעשה בקיום ובביצוע ערב זה גם לאור עשייתו החשובה של המפמ״ר הראשון לאנגלית, מר רפאל גפן, לו אנו מקדישים את הערב. אני גאה לשמש כמפמ״ר על הוראת האנגלית ומברכת על ההזדמנות שניתנה לי ליזוולהוביל מהלכים אשר עשויים להשפיע לטובה על קידום הוראת האנגלית בבתי-הספר בישראל. אני מודה לכולכם באהבה מעומק ליבי.
