The Alief Veterinary Science Program is a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program that prepares students for careers in veterinary medicine, animal care, and related animal science fields. Students participate in hands-on, supervised learning experiences designed to build practical skills, professional responsibility, and industry awareness.
The Alief Veterinary Science Program operates as part of the Alief Independent School District’s (CTE) pathways. The program supports students as they prepare for post-secondary education, certifications, or entry-level opportunities in veterinary and animal care fields.
The program exists to:
Provide real-world veterinary and animal care training
Support student career exploration and skill development
Serve the community through supervised, educational services
This approach allows students to apply classroom learning in a controlled, professional environment.
All services provided through the program are performed by students under the direct supervision of certified instructors and program staff. Student training emphasizes safety, animal welfare, and professional responsibility at every stage of instruction.
As part of the curriculum, students complete OSHA safety training and are introduced to workplace standards relevant to veterinary and animal care settings. Students also work toward industry-recognized credentials, including the Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA), and accumulate supervised clinical hours both during instructional time and through approved experiences outside of school hours.
While the program is not a Fear Free® certified facility, instruction encourages low-stress handling techniques and humane animal care practices whenever possible. Students are taught to recognize animal stress signals and to prioritize calm, respectful interactions during all procedures.
