Food provision to students in the school environment, with a priority focus on breakfast provision.
Criteria:
• Food and beverages (only those that adhere to the Food and Nutrition Policy for Nova Scotia Public Schools)
• Supplies and equipment (no more than 10% of the total SHEP funding)
• Wages for program staff, honoraria for program volunteers and mileage reimbursement for program staff or volunteers.
Note: Once schools demonstrate that every student has access to a nutritious breakfast every school day, remaining SHEP funds can support other school-based healthy eating programs.

Staff lunches/events
Foods not in compliance with the NS School Food & Nutrition Policy (e.g hotdogs, chips, chocolate, cakes for special events etc.)
Transportation to or from activities (unless related to a food & nutrition learning event, e.g farm visit)
Examples of expenditures not covered by HSC funds:
Breakfast/lunch/snack programs (supplies, food, staff/volunteer honorarium)
Activities or equipment unrelated to whole school health promotion
Menstruation and other personal hygiene products
Motivational speakers
Holiday hampers (ex. Gifts)
