In May 2025, the community passed a bond issue to fund capital improvements for the Avon Lake City School District. As a result, the district has commenced the design and construction of a new grades 5-8 middle school and improvements to its elementary schools.
The design process moves forward with two significant engagements in late September.
The district has been meeting with TDA to further develop the plans for the new school.
What buildings are being affected in the Avon Lake City Schools construction project?
New Middle School Located on the Current Learwood Site
The new, 158,000 SF, middle school will consolidate students from Learwood and Troy and be built on the existing Learwood site.
Select Renovations to the Elementary Schools
Eastview, Westview, and Redwood elementaries will have improvements made to their mechanical systems, extending the life and user experience in these schools.
Demolition of the Existing Learwood Middle School and Troy Intermediate School
Both buildings will remain in operation until the new school is complete and will be demolished once students transfer to the new building.
The new middle school will be constructed behind the existing Learwood Middle School since it is the most suitable site to build a school of this size. The track and some athletic fields will remain in operation throughout design and construction.
In 2024, the Avon Lake City Schools Board of Education formally adopted the district’s new strategic plan, and the administrative team has made it available for community to review here. The strategic plan summarizes the important priorities of the Avon Lake City Schools, a new mission and vision statement, and a portrait of what our school district intends to produce with its learners and graduates.
Priority 1: Create a Culture of Respect and Collaboration
Priority 2: Focus on Student-Centered Learning
Priority 3: Infrastructure that Enables Student and Staff Success
The third priority of the plan focuses on investing in infrastructure that enables student and staff success. This includes building new facilities and renovating existing buildings to better support the staff and student experience.
