Open Submissions

Northern Ireland Anthology #1

Avalard Publishing is currently accepting submissions of short fiction (any genre including autofiction) for an anthology inspired by the theme of 'Home'. 

Home as a place, home as a concept, feelings, thoughts, memories... wherever you want to take it. 

All submissions should be the work of someone who is either a native of Northern Ireland, or is either currently living or has lived in the province. 

Length: Up to a maximum of 6,000 words per submission (no minimum). 

Flash fiction is acceptable, as are collaborative pieces.

Submissions should be double spaced, and presented in Times New Roman.

Your cover note should include a very brief pitch line or synopsis of the story; a short biography of the author of a couple of lines; indicate if your work has been published previously, or is being submitted simultaneously; and include contact details of the author. 

Avalard is committed to publishing original work and are against publication of stories produced by AI. As such, we would ask you to be transparent and honest with us. Your cover note should also indicate if you've used AI in the production of your manuscript and to what extent. If this isn't declared and we later discover your work has been produced by AI, you will be banned from any future projects with us. 

There is no fee to submit, and your work will be read. We cannot promise feedback on unsuccessful submissions. 

Successful contributors will receive a printed copy of the final anthology. 

Submissions should be completed and sent to submissions@avalardpublishing.com no later than midday on 13 February 2026.
