AUUC could investigate texting members and friends through Constant Contact, but you must decide whether you want to push out info or have users pull information from an information source. The survey results showed that your most effective communication exists when your users pull information from communication platforms. But your communication is only as good as the information that is pushed up to the platform.
Option 1: Push- You could investigate adding texting to Constant Contact to send reminders directly to user about events, collecting mobile numbers.
Option 2: Pull- You could also use existing or newly created social media profiles, allowing users opt into getting notifications.
AUUC could consider adding the Facebook Events Calendar plug-in ($16) to your Word Press site to allow the church calendar to auto-populate its Facebook calendar. If we choose to have the church calendar sync to our Facebook page, users can RSVP to events and receive notifications on their devices using our existing Facebook page.
These spaces are very public, so we must exercise caution when publishing events entered to church calendar. These events must be public events that would auto-populate to the Facebook page.
If Option 2 (a) is too public a space to share event details, leaders might consider creating a closed group in Facebook, then creating events in this group.
It must be understood that the Facebook group is not a replacement for submitting announcements to church publications. Both must be completed. The Facebook group would be a supplement to the Google form announcement submission.
By creating a closed Facebook group, users can RSVP to Facebook events and/or sync the calendars to their device. In this ways, users can receive notifications and reminders for upcoming events.
