STEM education is the teaching and learning of Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and a little bit of Computer Science. STEM education is about the Science or Engineering behind many of things that are man made. People learn these techniques so that one day they learn to do the things humans to do today and apply their skills towards it. It allows people to learn skills that regularly overlap.
STEM education is important because children learn more than just Math or Science. They are important because it teaches children how the world works and get to do hands on activities on STEM to interact with objects they can use. Children learn these skills then apply them to the real world and learn problem-solving skills. In most career and job fields, STEM also tends to be relevant, such as in fields of science, where mathematics are required. STEM education is also one of the most popular and has the most successful careers. People have learned many things from STEM and had used in the real world to help solve real world problems around them.
STEM education can shape the future by providing the skills and preparing students for more automated, creative, and more technological work fields. As the technology around us gets more advanced, students might become interested into the fields involving science, technology, engineering, and math, and these skills can help students find their path after school and what kind of career they want to take after college. For example, STEM can help students with skills for any of the fields which can involve Math, Science, Technology, and engineering and students can create new inventions and tools for people in need or for a problem.
Project Based Learning (PBL) is a constructivist instructional approach where students are engaged in meaningful inquiry of personal interest to them and where collaboration and personalized learning are emphasized. STEMSOS is a rigorous, interdisciplinary, standards-focused, and engaging STEM teaching approach that is teacher-facilitated, student-centered and directed through sets of project- and inquiry-based (P&IBL) projects. STEMSOS PBL approach is to maintain the focus on standards-based teaching while enriching and extending the learning of students through PBL projects. The goal is to promote not only collaborative skills and student ownership of learning but also to promote student success in state and national standards.
STEMSOS PBL Showcase is designed to promote and share exemplary student work in PBL projects that can serve as valuable learning and teaching tools for students, parents, teachers, and other educators.
