Had the same issue with my HP laptop, which had been reimaged with a regular (non-HP) Win7 install. There are two parts needed for this puzzle, the hardware drivers (which Windows will pull down automatically), and the application to use the hardware (what you're being directed to the 404 authentec.com site to fetch). Going to HP's driver selection for the laptop, I had to download HP's ProtectTools suite, which includes the application software. You'll have to hunt down Sony's equivalent through their support site.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Any idea of how you did it before ? It would make logging in really hassle free. I'm on windows 8.1 and I use AuthenTec Truesuite to log me in using my fingerprint when windows starts.

No, I think the version I have can only log me in when windows starts. It would be cool if Keepass could somehow make use of the generic biometric fingerprint driver in device manager. Also my password for Keepass I made deliberately different to my windows password so even if my software could 'fill-in' the password it wouldn't be quite as secure as what I'd want.

My personal laptop (HP, Simplepass by Authen Tec) does fill in the Keepass password using its fingerprint reader. My work laptop (Lenovo, Thinkvantage ) does not unless I pay for a better version. It depends on the fingerprint reader driver and if you can set it up to automatically enter passwords for software dialogues. My HP laptop will even start the keepass software if I scan my finger print once windows is running.

Windows 8 has standardized fingerprint scanning btw, you don't need simplepass, or truesuite, or any of that crap. You register your fingerprints within windows itself, and any program can use the biometrics API. Lastpass uses this API- this means you don't register your fingerprints in lastpass, lastpass uses windows to verify the scan.

simplepass is HP's fingerprint management software, that I believe was abandoned many years ago. If you have 8.1 chances are your fingerprint scanner will just grab a driver from winupdate. Search the start screen in windows for "Set up fingerprint sign-in", and register your fingerprint there to enable logging into windows with your fingerprint, and also allow other applications (for example lastpass) to utilize your biometric data.

Mark, I'll give it a try. I had asked the HP tech support about how to

use it with other programs but they said windows and ie only. But, I have

found those people not smart enough to come in out of the rain. BTW Paul

had asked to not send previous emails, I would be happy to comply but

cannot figure out how to do it in Gmail.
