Identify the Race Grade

Find out the single-letter race grade placed at the top

The greyhound races are organized in such a way that the dogs with similar abilities – depending on their number of race wins – or compete against each other. It is easy to find the race grade because it will be somewhere along the top of the form. It is denoted by a single letter. The most common letter is M, D, B, C, or A.

The race grade will not affect the quality of the race. A low-grade M race will be as entertaining as a high-grade A race! However, to ensure you see the best dogs’ race, especially when planning to bet, you must know the race grade.

Also, note that the M, C, D, B, and A grading system is not universal. However, it is the most used grading system for the Gosford greyhound racing.

The “M” stands for Maiden, referring to the dogs that didn’t win any races. These races are made up of new dogs racing, while some are veterans who have never crossed the finish line.

Some “M” grade races might also include the dogs that have won races before but that have finished outside the top 3 or another number of consecutive races.

Every dog in this race has won just once before or finished first only once after finishing outside the top 3 for either 5 or 10 straight races. This means it must be a race full of winners that are hungry for more.
