A Trifecta is an exotic type of bet requiring the punter to select the first, second, and third horses that finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Various kinds of Trifectas are available to punters, so ensure you find the proper structure to work with your betting strategy. For example, while placing your bets on the Bulli greyhounds, be aware of the right ways to place your bets. You must also decide if the Trifecta is the right bet for a given set of participants in a particular race.
A Straight Trifecta is the most budget-friendly of all Trifecta bets, but it is also one of the hardest to win, with the punters only allowed one selection in every position and needing to tip the first three greyhounds home - in order! On the other hand, a Boxed Trifecta enables the punter to make any number of selections (limited to field size) with their runners being able to finish in any order.
How to calculate Trifecta odds?
The Trifecta is a kind of pooled betting, like most exotic bet varieties. The TAB runs the Trifecta pools in Australia, with each of their three totes:
SuperTAB
NSWTAB
UTAB
These three totes each have a different pool.
All Trifecta wagers are combined into a single pool, the operator (TAB) takes out their commission, the government taxes and the remaining is divided equally among those with the winning combination. The amount each punter is entitled to be the dividend.
How much does a Trifecta cost?
As a basic rule, the cost of your Trifecta will increase for every possible winning combination. But while adding many selections increases the price, it also greatly enhances your likelihood of winning. Striking a balance between costliness and coverage (also known as the number of possible winning combinations/outcomes) is an excellent skill for trifectas - and most other exotic bet types!
How do Trifecta payouts work?
Each trifecta bet is provided with a Flexi percentage. This percentage depends on the variety of Trifecta you take, the number of Bulli greyhounds you include, and the size of your stake.
If your bet is declared a winner, your payout is only that percentage of the declared dividend. In a straight trifecta, you nominate one horse to win, one to finish second, and one to finish third. The cost for a straight Trifecta is $1, and your Flexi percentage is 100%. If you were to stake $2 on the same bet, your Flexi percentage would be 200%. If you staked $5, it would be 500%, and so on.
