The APAPA members participated in phone banking in partnership with Asian Texans for Justice to notify the Asian-American community in Texas about the primary elections on March 5th, 2024. We reached 10000+ people in the area and reminded them about the importance of voting as an outlet for exerting their democratic rights.
APAPA officers set up a table at the Vietnamese American Community of Austin Texas (VACAT)'s Mid-Autumn Festival event to encourage more people to register to vote. We also had a display of traditional Mid-Autumn Festival decorations to connect with the cultural roots of the celebration.
APAPA members hosted a celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival at Spicewood Springs Library in Austin. We set up many different tables with various crafts and activities for visitors to participate in, in order to celebrate the cultural and historical traditions of the festival. We had a booth for people to start voter registration in preparation for upcoming elections.
The APAPA members organized the Asian Pacific American Culture Celebration at Westbank Library to celebrate the traditions, culture, and accomplishments of the Asian American Pacific Islander community. Our attendees enjoyed learning to make origami crafts, coloring Asian Pacific American success stories, and listening to storybooks on balancing multiple cultural identities.
The APAPA Youth group presented to a large audience over Zoom to raise awareness about the contributions of influential AAPI historical figures during AAPI History Month.
The APAPA youth group participated in a public event with Congressman Doggett and AFSSA representative ED Darleen, where APAPA donated to AFFSA.
The APAPA youth group alongside those from the STEM Explorer program attended a tour at Seton Medical Center, where they explored the Surgery room, and also learned about the various equipment trained professionals use.
The APAPA youth group alongside those from the STEM Explorer program attended an entrepreneurship program on 9/7. We were given the perspectives and advice from multiple successful entrepreneurs, we then formulated an entrepreneurship plan with an assigned group.
The APAPA youth group held its monthly Current Events Meeting at La Madeline, where we discussed about current issues such as: Hong Kong riots, the Amazon rainforest fires, Hurricane Dorian, Adversity Score, and open carry in Texas. APAPA has also announced a new president, where we discussed about serving underprivileged children, particularly those in District 10.
