Introduction: Current students, future honors students, and current honors college faculty members have and will generate a big impact on the IUI community and myself. My journey as an honors student reflects these impacts and future potential experiences as an honors student. During my journey as an honors student, I have changed immensely in both the person I am and the person I want to become. During my first semester as an honors student, I took an introductory course that taught me what it means to be an honors student. In the course, I created goals, mission statements, journey maps, and many other representative artifacts of what being an honors student entails. Currently, I am reflecting on these artifacts, and generating/annotating updated versions of select materials. Below is a "now versus" "I am" statement, journey map, and reflection on my journey as an honors student at Indiana University Indianapolis.
"I am"
I am a driven student who takes every opportunity to better myself, my community, and the world around me. Along with the mountains, learning and contributing to the bigger picture of society brings me fulfillment and joy in my life. Seeing the positive impacts of other individuals actions inspires me to be the best student, family member, and leader that I can be.
"I want to become"
Adaptability, maintaining forward progress, and leadership are critical attributes that I believe are monumental in my aspirations to become the person that I want to be. These attributes will be the pillars for me to maintain a successful trajectory in who I want to become. I want to become a leader in the scholarly community, an ambitious mountaineer, and an admirable member of my community and family.
Presently, I am a driven student who takes every opportunity to better myself, my community, and the world around me. I welcome challenges and I am driven to tackle these challenges. Taking this headspace and contributing to who I want to become plays a role in my academic goals to pursue a Ph.D., my mountaineering ambitions to summit the seven summits, and develop unbreakable relationships within my community.
Leadership inside and outside of academia is a quality that I am driven to obtain because I believe that creating a lasting impact on others around you is important for the entire community to progress. Ambition also fuels my fire in academia and outside of academia. This is a trait my of present person that I want to perfect in the person that I want to become. I never want to lose my ambition to maintain forward progress because I believe there is always forward progress to be made.
Overall, I wish to not only maintain and build the positive attributes that I hold as a student and member of my community, but I also want to build onto my current foundation as a person by creating an intricate network of leadership qualities, ambitious goals, and contributions to my community.

Ambition, contributing positivity, and learning are critical attributes that I believe are monumental in my aspirations to become the person that I want to be. As a future scientist, I am constantly trying to do everything in my power to put myself in a position to be the best scholar that I can be.

Reflection: Reflecting on my development as an honors student and a scholar from when I took H200 has been rewarding. This reflection has built my goal-setting confidence and my confidence in my ability to stay on track when pursuing a long-term goal. My "I am" and "I want to become" statements from previously and currently are very similar. Consistency is important when pursuing a challenging long-term goal. However, I can see how my perspective during that semester was a bit more multi-directional in the sense that I was setting goals in many areas of my life. For example, I was immersed in my travels and mountaineering goals at the time as graduate school seemed so far away. Currently, I am in the process of applying, interviewing, and deciding what my PhD journey may look like. This has led to a tunnel vision in my current goal setting, which has influenced my journey map and current goals. However, it is important for me to acknowledge that my long-term goals have not drifted and I still am dedicated to achieving them. In sum, my H200 artifacts are great representations of my abilities to stay focused and dedicated to long-term goals and persevere through challenging times in my journey.
