The Austin UXPA mentorship program promotes learning partnerships among professionals in the UX field including those just starting out. Our aim is to connect UX professionals based on their career development goals, years of professional experience, and areas of expertise.
The program runs from 10/1/23 - 12/18/23. To participate, mentors must submit their applications by September 20, 2023.
Completing the form does not guarantee that you will be matched. In the event that we do not have enough mentors or mentees, you may be added to a waitlist for the next cohort. Pairs are expected to have meetings online or in person once a month for the duration of the 10-week program.
At the end of the term, we’ll ask for your feedback which will help us evolve our program.
Mentors will be classified into three distinct cohorts based on their level of experience. At a minimum, we require 1 full year of professional UX experience to be matched with our entry-level job seekers, beyond that, any amount of experience in any UX area will qualify. In addition, we ask that you provide a professional reference so we can verify your background.
You’ll be mentoring UXers of any background or experience level, such as:
Recent graduates with <1 year experience seeking entry-level or junior career development mentorship
1 to <5 years experience seeking mid to senior-level career development mentorship
>5 years experience seeking lead, management, director, instruction, or more specialized UX roles
As a mentor, we require a minimum availability of one hour per month to meet with and provide professional or career advice to your assigned mentee. You may meet more (we encourage it!), but we understand schedules can get hectic.
Along with providing advice for navigating the Austin UX scene, sharing your local connections and past experiences is what makes you a great candidate. If accepted to the program, we’ll share some more resources to help you get started. If you’ve never mentored before, that’s OK! Do you have a love for constant learning, value genuine relationships, and serve as a positive role model for the Austin UX community? If so, we think you’d be a great fit.
We are prioritizing designers who live in the greater Austin area, as strengthening the Austin design community is part of our core mission. We also encourage in-person mentoring when it becomes safe again to do so.
Do you know someone who would be a great mentor? If so, please share this with them!
If you have specific questions, please reach out to austinuxpamentorship@gmail.com. We’ll notify all candidates, selected or waitlisted.
